Each metal pan is minimally filled three times to a pillow-top fullness and undergoes forced rapid dehydration after each fill. Some modern organic pigments shrink much more than others. The same watercolor medium recipe is used for each pigment regardless of its behavior. We have opted not to alter the medium recipe to thicken or firm up any colors that behave differently so, though every rectangle pan receives a minimum of 1.75 ml of liquid paint for rectangles, and 3.5 mil paint for squares, the reduction varies by color. We will continue to experiment with out filling process and are working on a tube set option for the future. For now, paints are sold by quantity-not weight or volume due to variations that can occur with handmade goods.
Traditional Half Pans require six or more refills and contain minimally 7 mil liquid paint that has been reduced to a transportable consistency.
*Please Note that we modify the pigments with our own special watercolor medium recipe to create a transportable pan for our palette sets and thus have in that way altered the original recipes of Dr. Ph. Martin's® Hydrus® Pigments . Regina's Watercolor elects to use Honey and genuine Ox Gall in all of our paints. If you are looking for vegan products, you may prefer to play with the original liquid set. For further details on ingredients, toxicology assessment, visit our page here.
